As a wedding planner I am incredibly lucky that many of my couples remain in touch and become close friends long after their wedding day, I met up with Richard and Nicki a few days ago for a lovely lunch to celebrate Christmas and the New Year and it reminded me that I hadn’t yet written a blog about their wedding day which was back in July.
From the first time I met Nicki and Richard (and Ella, Nicki’s lovely daughter who was equally, if not more excited about the upcoming wedding than Nicki was) I knew that I was going to enjoy working with them. With Pinterest boards, scrap books and ideas galore they knew exactly what they wanted for their big day and it was my job to help them to turn their ideas into a reality.
The venue was the Captain’s Club Hotel & Spa in Christchurch, Richard and Nicki had booked the hotel on an exclusive use basis giving them the whole hotel for their big day.
The morning of the wedding was so relaxed, Nicki was in her suite having her hair and make up done whilst family and friends dropped by to enjoy a glass of champagne and chips with the bride and bridesmaids.
One of the things I did notice throughout the whole day was the absolute love that Jack, Nicki’s son showed towards his mum, sister and the bridesmaids especially whilst they were getting ready for the ceremony. Jack had the honour of walking his mum down the aisle. He was obviously very happy that his mum was marrying Richard and I don’t think Nicki could have been any prouder of him at the time that these photos were taken. The first with his mum and the second with his sister. There is a lot of genuine love in this family.
The bridesmaids looked stunning in their baby pink dresses, absolutely beautiful and complimented Nicki’s dress perfectly.
And now onto the boys. Richard had two best men who were simply brilliant. From the minute I met them on the Friday I could tell that the wedding was going to be a lot of fun and that the best men would be playing a massive part in making sure that everything ran smoothly and that everyone had a fab time. They actually held their very own receiving line when all the guests were making their way into the Waterside Suite for the ceremony and each and every guest were meeted and greeted by them – I loved it!!
At 3pm the bridesmaids made their entrance followed by Nicki and Jack, live vocal duo the Songbirds were singing ‘How long will I love you’ by Ellie Goulding. The ceremony was lovely with readings from family and friends and more music provided by The Songbirds.
At that moment two families became one and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house, including mine!
Drinks and canapés were waiting for the guests on the terrace whilst live music entertained them. There was even a bit of dancing from the bride and bridesmaids. The wedding breakfast was served in the Waterside Suite, children were treated to an American style children’s buffet complete with pasta, mini burgers, fries and an ice cream sundae bar.
The mother of the bride’s speech was brilliant and Richard followed this with a great speech full of his jokes and humour. The Best Men didn’t disappoint either with their speeches and all of the guests were laughing throughout!
A big thank you must go to my team of incredible suppliers who helped create the stunning stationary and flowers on the wedding day. Parkwood Florists in Parkstone who always deliver the most beautiful wedding flowers and Emma Farwell for her beautiful stationary from the invitations right through to the table plan and menu place cards.
And of course a massive thank you to BH13 Photography and Final Cut Film Company for capturing the day so perfectly. My A Team when it comes to photography and videography.
Ella had worked with me on a wedding a few weeks before her mums and had fallen in love with the ‘Candy Buffet’ idea and made the last minute decision to insist that her mum had this on her wedding day, this teamed with a delicious macaroon tower of strawberry and champagne macaroons gave the guests something sweet to enjoy during the evening celebrations which started with a Michael Bublé tribute act.
Throughout the evening there were photo props on hand for guests to have fun with as well as the more practical flip flops for those ladies who were ready to kick off their heels and dance the night away to the band – Encore. A DJ then took the party through from midnight to 2am.
A ‘Cheese’ cake and grazing station of delicious food was available throughout the evening for when the guests got hungry again. I have to say, the Captain’s Club certainly know how to do a buffet – Head Chef Andrew Gault and his team always do an fantastic job!
Richard and I did have one surprise up our sleeves for Nicki, very early on in the organising Nicki had mentioned that she would love to have fireworks but Richard said no! Of course he didn’t mean it and just before 10.00pm the sky lit up with an amazing firework display.
Congratulations Mr and Mrs Sherin, thank you for trusting me with your big day and I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
